This fourth of July we watched the neighborhood parade and then went to a friends house for a barbecue. The parade was kind of lame (but I'm not much of a parade person), but the barbecue was fun.
No fireworks for us this year, though. The baby's already asleep...
It's funny, but I don't think I'll ever be able to think about the 4th again without thinking about where I was *last* fourth of July.
My mom and mother-in-law were here visiting because it was almost time for me to have the baby. It was actually past time; I was due on June 30th.
We all went out the watch the parade, but it started late and I had to leave early. I had to go to the hospital to get my last non-stress test before the baby was born. My blood pressure had been high during the pregnancy, so I was on medication. My new doctor wanted me to have an NST every week during the last few weeks. Since I was almost a week overdue, he planned to induce that upcoming Sunday.
Not only did I definitely *not* want to be induced, but I was pretty miserable by the 4th (it was HOT and I was big as a house and pretty uncomfortable. Up until then, the pregnancy was just fine, almost ideal) and ready to have the baby. I didn't really mind that the baby was "late," because I was hoping for a 7/7/07 delivery. I just really didn't want to be induced.
I didn't see much of the parade because I had to leave early for my NST. I left the DH and the grandmas at the parade and went by myself. They didn't normally take long; they checked my blood pressure and the baby's heart rate for a certain amount of time to see if there were any problems.
I don't remember much about the actual NST because it was during that last one that the nurse spilled the beans and told me that LZ was a girl. I didn't want to know the sex and usually made sure I told any techs that up front. This time, I forgot (ironically enough, she told me that she *always* asked before revealing the baby's sex. oops).
I can't remember why I had an ultrasound that time; I didn't normally have one. Perhaps because I was due to be induced in a few days, or because the doctor was worried about the amniotic fluid being low. The NST might have been worrisome that time. In fact, I think that *was* it. The nurses called the ob/gyn on call, but since I was due to be induced in a few days, the doctor told them/me just to wait until then.
Of course, two days later, at about 8 pm on July 6th, I went into labor. But that's another story...
